What’s the best temperature for storing and serving ice wine?

Jimmy asked:

Please give 2 temperatures (one for storing, one for serving). Celsius would be an added bonus! Also, I’m not interested in the makings of ice wine (I already know that!)

Red Wines should be served at room temputure, whites should be served at about 40 degrees, most box wines red or white should be served chilled at 40 degrees. remember to open red wines 45-60 minutes to achieve maxiumn Flavor!

The best temp for storing Ice wine is at 0 degree C. This temp will not crystalize the content in the bottle.

The best Temp to serve ice wine is in 0 degree C as well. Why? The flavor that is preserved at the storage temp is served and enjoyed that way.

An increase by half a reduces the flavor of Ice wine.

Ice wine, also known as eiswein, should be served between 45º and 50º Fahrenheit (7º and 10º Celsius). Ideal storage temperature for all wines is between 50º and 59º Fahrenheit (10º and 15º Celsius). Maintaining a consistent environment is also important for wine storage – temperature and humidity fluctuations, as well as vibrations, can adversely affect wine.

It partly depends on where the eiswein is from. It can be served pretty cold, even in the range of 3 to 7 degrees celsius. I believe Austrian eiswein is usually served warmer, in the range of 7 to 10 degress celsius. Personally I like German eiswein on the cold side, around 4 degrees C.

Over the long term, ideal storage for eiswein (like most wine) is at 10 to 12 degrees celsius with minimal fluctuation, humidity of about 75%, no vibration, no strong smells, and dark with no UV.

Hope celsius only is ok – it is about time the world started using a single, rational system of measurements.

45º and 50º to store
41º-46º F for serving
Icewine with a cork closure should be stored on its side to prevent the cork from drying out. icine with a synthetic closure does not have to be stored on its side, but wine racks are just so handy. Wine likes dark, consistently cool storage areas. Exposure to intense light and heat can ruin a wine.
